The room behind was another small antechamber, presumably linking the back rooms. It might be three yards in width, and a few more in length; but it was covered with ooze and slime, and the waves continually broke over it. As she went on, the story began to sound more and more like a recitation. The enclosure by which it was surrounded was about twelve feet high; the under part being composed of taken planks, the upper of a strong iron grating, surmounted by sharp iron spikes. The hour for which, presumably, she had been created was drawing nigh.
